PERMANENT CHANGE

How many times have we heard the saying, “The only permanent thing in life is change?” We've heard it, read it, and probably even said it ourselves. But even so, we still love using it. We even add humorous statements to it sometimes. This quote can be interpreted in so many ways. In chemistry, change can be categorized as either physical or chemical. In physical change, there is no change in properties and no new substance is formed. In a chemical change, one or more substances that are different from the original can be formed. These definitions can also be applied in real life. People, incidents, or events can make us change the way we think, feel, or live. I’m sure you can think of many persons who have influenced your way of thinking and situations which have shaped your character. All changes must start from somewhere and at their own pace. We can’t expect something to change in just a blink of an eye. Some changes must start out small, while others must be triggered by something. At times we don’t like change because we are happy with the way things are. But change is unavoidable. It is bound to happen no matter what we do and we can’t really prevent it. Sometimes we are unaware that it is about to happen. Sometimes there is simply nothing we can do to stop it. In real life, it is always more complicated to change for the better, as they say. If only changing something is as simple as producing a new substance. But it’s not. Indeed, there is nothing permanent but change. 

As the Michael Jackson song goes, “if we want to make the world a better place, we should take a look at ourselves and make a change.”
